Workshop on Monitoring and Evaluation of STI Policies and Strategies

Under the patronage of HE. Dr. Khaled Elshuraydeh, the Secretary General of The Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST), the General Secretariat of the Council, in collaboration with the UNESCO Office in Amman, and within the framework of the “Jordan Science, Technology and Innovation Observatory”, organized a training workshop about “Monitoring and Evaluation tools for Science, Technology and Innovation Policies”.

 

In a brief about the Higher Council for Science and Technology Dr. Elshuraydeh stated that The Council was established in 1987, with the objective of building a national science and technology base to contribute to the achievement of development objectives. He also highlighted HCST vital role in ratifying and periodically reviewing the Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Policy and strategy, and directing R&D activities towards national developmental priorities.

 

According to Dr. Elshuraydeh, the Higher Council had prepared the final draft of the national Science, Technology and Innovation Policy and Strategy for the years 2012-2016, with the contribution of delegates from ministries and other governmental institutions alongside representatives from the private sector, universities and scientific research centers.

 

The Secretary-General added: this workshop is very important and aims at building national capacity in evaluation and monitoring of the implementation of policies and strategies for science, technology and innovation.

 

This workshop covered issues like the Monitoring and Evaluation of Results andImpacts (MERI)” that includes:  initiation and preparation of MERI, policy review and analysis of issues and challenges, creating the impact model, the impact measures and measure dictionary, data collection and analysis, and communication and reporting.

 

Workshop participants were STI policies practitioners from ministries, as well as public and private universities.
