A Workshop on Wavelet-Based Applications in the Twenty-First Century

In its continuous pursuit to enhance Jordanian capabilities in all fields of science and technology to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development, the Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST) through the “Jordanian Scientist and Technologist Abroad Network Unit,(JoSTA)”, organized a workshop under the title “Wavelet-Based Applications in the Twenty-First Century” at the Hashemite Auditorium at the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) .

JoSTA, hosted Professor Cajetan M. Akujuobi, Professor of Electrical Engineering, Vice President for Research & Dean, Graduate Studies, Executive Director, Center of Excellence for Communication Systems Technology Research, Co- Executive Director, SECURE Center of Excellence, and Professor Sarhan Musa, Ph.D.,Professor of Engineering Technology; Director, CISCO Center & Researcher SECURE Center of Excellence, Prairie View A&M University, Texas,USA as a key note speakers to highlight this new concept, Wavelet-Based Applications in the Twenty-First Century. They  explosive growth of wavelet-based applications in this 21st Century to various areas that affect our lives, and  reviewed  key concepts about wavelets and the most recent advances in the area of wavelet-based applications that affect our daily lives.

Both professors presented applications ranging from pure mathematics to virtually every field of engineering, from medicine to aerospace, from astrology to economics, from oceanography to seismology, wavelet transforms are being applied to such areas where no other transforms have ever been applied. They pointed out some of the most recent creative conventional and non-conventional applications of wavelets. On the conventional front, professors discuss applications such as multidimensional (MD) signals, compressive sensing (CS), power systems, atmospheric sciences and other areas. On the unconventional front, there are various fields of applications including biomedical engineering analysis in neurophysiology; nondestructive evaluation, fractals, and economics.

HE. Dr Khaled Shuraydeh SG of the Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST) talked about ,” The national programme Jordanian Scientist and Technologist Abroad ,(JoSTA)”,  He highlighted that "this workshop is one of JoSTA  network activity aims at reversing the brain drain of Jordanian scientists and technologists, by linking them with counterparts in Jordan and encourage them to work towards Jordan Virtually or physically, through the implementation of for example joint research and development activities and joint business ventures.

,

HRH, Princess Sumayah, President of the Royal Scientific Society, attended the workshop in addition to representatives of Jordanian universities, research centers and electricity companies.
